I am thankful I had the opportunity to view Steve McQueens' Small Axe, five film anthology. The stories are happy and sad and often heart-wrenching. The thread that weaves through these storyies is intense hatred and racism from the white colonial midset towards the minoriy of West India immigrants, many from Trinidad and Tabago and Jamaica; we all know this story but none of us know the people.
Also, I was ignorant of the racial strife in England and how closely it mirrored the same injustices in the U.S.
John Boyega is mentioned but there were other striking performance from formally trained actors that were nothing short of perfection.
Many strong stand out performances were delivered by Sheli Cole as Alex Wheatle, Shaun Parkers as Frank Crichlow, Letitia Wright as Antheia Jones and Malachi Kirby as Darcus Howe who gives a stunning performance.
